Holiday Themed Math Manipulatives and Ideas

Teaching in December doesn't need to be stressful. It's actually the perfect time to make the most of the excitement and motivation children have as the holidays approach. One fast and easy way to put a holiday spin on the usual routine is by replacing your usual math manipulatives during Math Workshop or Guided Math with holiday-themed manipulatives.

Wrapped peppermints, mini-marshmallows, gumdrops, seasonal erasers, and the bulbs from a Lite-Brite all add a bit of pizzazz to the normal routines. They can be used at all grade levels.
  • counting
  • addition
  • subtraction
  • making arrays
  • acting out division equations
  • varied units of measure
  • geometry (add toothpicks to the marshmallows and gumdrops to make 3D solids)
